Five 8:00pm - 9:00pm

In the fourth instalment of the series, a Chinook pilot practises landing in a dusty desert, a suicide attack in Kandahar city puts the base hospital staff on high alert and the Royal Marines welcome some special guests from the UK. Built to operate in all conditions, the powerful Chinook helicopter provides a lifeline for the ground troops serving in the Afghan combat zone. Flying these bulky machines over sand, however, is not easy.

More shenanigans with the grumpy doc. Louisa faces off with love rival Carrie in a battle for Martin's affections, and romance is in the air for Aunt Joan, who gains an admirer in the form of Edward. Elsewhere, Al makes a surprise reappearance and PC Penhale celebrates his birthday. Martin Clunes stars, with Joe Absolom and Louise Delamere.

BBC 2 10:00pm - 10:30pm

Gavin & Stacey fans were understandably pleased to discover the comic talents of Mathew Horne and James Corden were harnessed for an absolutely hilarious comedy sketch show for BBC3. Thanks to rave reviews and decent viewing figures, the programme is now being repeated on BBC1. In the first programme, viewers are introduced to, or reacquainted with, a wide variety of quirky characters. The first episode features an encounter with Xander, and would-be magicians Jonny and Lee Miller.

Newsnight

BBC 2 10:30pm - 11:00pm

Back in 1980, a news show hit the airwaves with opening titles so crude, they looked like they were generated by a calculator. The shaky Newsnight logo may have looked like something created on Blue Peter, but the quality of reporting was second to none. In the years since then, the graphics have become far more polished, while the presenters have become stars in their own right.
Davina is back for another night of fun.

Big Brother

Channel 4 10:35pm - 11:05pm

Admittedly some of the tasks this year have been as exciting as watching paint dry, but at least these Friday evictions are always good fun. As ever, the divine Davina McCall will be guiding us through the last 24 hours in the abode before reciting that classic line: "You're live on Channel 4. Please do not swear". Once the latest evictee is announced, Davina will collect them for that obligatory post eviction grilling.

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

We're nearing the end of the current run of the hugely popular chat show but that's not to say that Jonathan has been left with any old guests for the final few shows. In fact, they seem to get better every week and tonight's show is no different, with Hollywood superstar Sandra Bullock among the guests. Also, Emma Watson perches on the shiny black sofa to promote Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Liz Smith, aka Nana Royle, and Little Boots also appear.
The team tries to find out who shot Horatio.

CSI: Miami

Five 11:00pm - 12:00am

Horatio really can do anything. And that includes rising from the dead. the riddle of last season's cliffhanger ending is solved in an explosive opening instalment of a new season for this scintillating spin-off. Arriving at the Miami airfield where Horatio was gunned down, Calleigh and Delko set out to find the shooter. The agents find a link to Juan Ortega - the weapons dealer Horatio put behind bars - and uncover a complicated plot involving the sale of dangerous fused-alloy bullets.

In this week's edition Jonny Smith hits the road in the Ecto-1 _ more commonly known as the original Ghostbusters ambulance. And who's he gonna call to be his driving companion? Former Most Haunted star Derek Acorah, who helps him go in search of the paranormal, before spending the night on one of the most haunted rooms in England. Meanwhile, Jason Plato test drives the recently revised Mini Cooper and Mazda MX-5, and Tiff Needell puts the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage through its paces.
